![]() ![]() Now yes, I do very much appreciate how in Sea of Tears Floella Benjamin shows her main protagonist Jasmine (who is almost 13) as totally furious and frustrated that her parents have decided to move the family from South London to Barbados, and that they did not bother to consult their daughter about this huge and major decision either and meet the fact Jasmine really does not AT ALL want to leave her life in England and in particular her many friends with pretty much a total lack of both understanding and empathy. I have to admit that I really am majorly conflicted regarding Floella Benjamin's 2011 young adult novel Sea of Tears, with there being one part of Sea of Tears that is thematically and textually totally and absolutely enjoyable and emotionally relatable (and with Sea of Tears also counting as OwnVoices, as the author is British but of Bajan background) but also way too much that I am finding textually annoying, frustrating and even kind of reading interest destroying. ![]()
